If you know me, you know that Guardian’s of the Galaxy (2014) is my favorite of what the Marvel Cinematic Universe has to offer thus far. A movie so irrelevant to the franchise yet so engrossing as a sci-fi/action/comedy was nothing short of amazing when I saw it, and Marvel has yet to top it for me.
Now if you can disband your beliefs for a hot minute, I can tell you that I predicted yesterday that this trailer was gonna drop really soon. I mean it made sense to me. Doctor Strange (2016) will be out in a week in the UK and you really think Marvel wouldn’t try to get a head start selling seats for the sequel to their biggest movie in the franchise (might actually be Civil War (2016) don’t quote me on that)? Not to mention it’s the first feature film being shot on the RED Weapon. – an 8K camera. And wouldn’t you know it, I wake up to a teaser for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) as seen below:
Question 1: Who’s excited? Answer: Me. //Question 1A: Who’s surprised? Answer: No one.
The movie looks like any sequel would: The stakes are higher, the feelings are more personal, and the budget is bigger. While that may seem like a bad thing, for a movie like Guardians, it’s probably just what they have in mind. The first Guardians was a complete parody of the hero’s journey and I mean that in the best way. Between the one liners, camera work and editing style, the result was a colorful and fun journey that felt like Parks and Recreation meets Star Wars.
Vol. 2 looks as colorful as the universe in the first and it certainly looks like stakes are higher. Something evil is coming this way and it’s probably bigger and badder than last movie’s villain. The cinematography was framed just like the first Guardians which is alright with me if it’s taking after a movie that also had great cinematography. It makes sense in my head but what do I know?
Baby Groot looks to be the cutest thing since BB-8 and I’m really curious how Vin Diesel got his voice from raspy and practically intangible to childish and cute. Is Vin Diesel a better voice actor than actor? Good to know Nebula is back and it’s good to know that ‘Hooked On A Feeling’ will probably have a play through before the credits roll. Although I do hope Quill’s Awesome Mix Vol. 2 will be twice as good as Vol. 1. Apparently there is a full trailer coming out soon and this is just a simple sneak peak. If you ask me, this is all we really need to hold us over for a bit I mean 90 seconds isn’t a sneak peak, it’s a teaser trailer.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be in theaters May 5th, 2017.
